America at the Crossroads of a new administration
On March 11, 2021, INCIPE and Fundación Consejo España–EE.UU. jointly hosted the virtual event America at the Crossroads of a New Administration, with the participation of Pete Sessions, Republican Congressman representing the 17th district of Texas. The presentation was led by Juan Lladó, President of Técnicas Reunidas and President of INCIPE, within the framework of the II Ciclo Grandes Potencias: EEUU. Following an enriching presentation, a question and answer session was moderated by Manuel Mª Lejaterra, Ambassador of Spain and Secretary-General of the Fundación Consejo España–EE.UU.
Congressman Sessions began his speach by addressing the topic of COVID-19, highlighting the collaborative efforts made by the United States and Spain. With an optimistic outlook, he expressed confidence in the swift recovery of both countries after the crisis and praised the significant advancements made by various pharmaceutical companies in vaccine production, acknowledging their crucial contribution to overcoming the disease.
Subsequently, Sessions delved into three areas he considers vital: technology, terrorism, and the relationship between Spain and the United States. Regarding technology, he advocated for increased investment, urging the United States and its allies to collaborate closely in this area. Concerning terrorism, he acknowledged its negative impact on economic growth and national security but maintained an optimistic perspective on the capacity to address this challenge. Regarding bilateral relations between Spain and the United States, he highlighted Spain’s international role as a country full of opportunities, emphasizing its positive impact on the global community.
The event concluded with a Q&A where participants posed questions and reflected on different ways to strengthen transatlantic relations and addressed concerns about the potential decline of U.S. influence vis-à-vis China. The future role of the Republican Party in national and international politics was also discussed. This debate was moderated by Manuel Mª Lejaterra, providing an invaluable platform for the exchange of ideas and perspectives on critical issues affecting both nations and the global landscape as a whole.
